Oobleck & Hours of Non-Newtonian Fun!

February 1, 2021

If your kids are like mine, then you’re definitely that parent who constantly searches for activities that are both educational & engaging. This curiosity was piqued when we found Oobleck: an amazing non-Newtonian fluid that truly captures the imagination of children. It behaves like a liquid when it’s not in motion, but miraculously turns into a solid when pressure or force is applied to it.

PLUS, it’s so GOOEY the kids couldn’t keep their little fingers in it!

And what kid can resist goo?

Exactly.

So here’re what you’ll need:

  • Pan
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup water
  • Food color (optional)

Just mix the cornstarch and water in the pan, and voila! Instant oobleck! They can’t get enough of this stuff. You can even hide toys in there like dinosaur figurines, or other plastic items.

Want their curiosities even more piqued? Grab a few colanders, sifters & funnels with different hole sizes and ask:

Have fun, and be curious!
